The 1986 Martin D 62 LE (Limited Edition Maple Guitar)

just made a deal on my all time Dream Martin Guitar!
Vintage 1986 Martin D-62LE (Limited Edition)
***One of Two made with a 1.7/8’s Nut***
Original Hardshell Case Included
This rare Martin D-62LE (Limited Edition) was Martin's custom-built Guitar of the Month for October 1986 and was Martin's first Maple Dreadnought model. This guitar is in very good condition with the usual scratches and pick marks that would be expected for a guitar of this age. Everything including the frets are all original with very little wear, and this guitar has been inspected and maintained by our own in-house shop.
This model features a flame maple back and sides, spruce top, scalloped forward-shifted X top bracing, tortoise-shell binding, and style 42 snowflake fingerboard inlays on an ebony fingerboard. This model has a wider neck that measures 1-7/8" at the nut, unusual in a 14-fret guitar. The label is hand-signed by Chris Martin IV and only 48 were made.
**1986 Martin D 62 Limited made in memory of Chris Martin IV father only had enough material to make 46 of 48 wanted**
The original paperwork states that the D-62LE was originally to have been signed by both C.F. Martin III and C.F. Martin IV, but sadly C.F. Martin III passed away in 1986 so this guitar was produced in memory of C.F. Martin III as indicated on the label.
What makes this particular D62LE unique is that it is a ONE OWNER guitar that was purchased NEW from our store in October, 1986 as shown on the original warranty statement that is included. The original owner of this guitar had attended a Martin factory tour in 1986 and ordered this guitar for himself through our store and has owned it ever since - until just recently trading it back in to us.
In addition to the signature on the label, the owner was later at a guitar show where Chris Martin IV was hand-signing Martin guitars and signed this one a SECOND time on the inside back underneath the label.
This is truly a one-of-a-kind guitar that can be appreciated by both players and collectors.
More About This Maple Martin;
Beginning in 1984, Martin started their guitar-of-the-month program. In the fall of each year, several special models were offered. Some were new and some re-creations of earlier models.
Around this time, Martin got into some amazing flamed Maple and created the 60’s series. This guitar, Martin’s first Maple dreadnought, is one of the coolest of the Limited Editions from that time. Only 48 were built. Just 2 with the wide nut.
Back and sides are flamed Maple, top is Sitka spruce (aged to the same cool amber color as the back and sides), neck is Mahogany. Fingerboard is Ebony with style 42 snowflake inlays. Bridge is Ebony with 2-5/16” string spacing at the bone saddle. Binding is tortoise colored with b-w-b-w-b purfling.
It has an adjustable truss rod.
Includes Martin OHSC.
Except for a few small dings and some cool finish crazing on the top and back, the guitar is in great shape for a thirty year old.
Top bracing is scalloped with a forward shifted X.
The nut is original and a wide 1-⅞” (very very on a Martin 14-fretter). Action is comfortably low at 3/32” and 2/32” at 12th fret.
The sound and playability of this Maple dread is amazing. Quick response with a pick and a fingerstyle dream.
This guitar is stunning in every way.

All the Best, Michael & Christi See our other Blog;http://michaelhargisshow.blogspot.com/
