Hello all, I have been a lead singer, as most of you know, for over forty years and last night at my show I was asked to play back up on guitar for the "Wonderful Tonight" guitar lead. REALLY?!?! I am still just learning to play and only strum alone but I said I would give it a try, It's only 3 cords, how hard could it be? So I pulled out my 76 Super Chet (I know I am not worthy to have a guitar like this but maybe one day...) front and center stage and 1-2-3-4, the 1st G rang out, single strum per beat. Then the D right on time, sweat pouring off my head and hands. Now the the difficult C cord right as rain and then back to the D. The bass player is mouthing the cords to me and shaking his head "Yes! Yes!" Only had to do that for the lead intro 2 times But oh shout I have to sing now?!?! Ok, calm down, I turn my attention to singing but oh hear it comes. The bass player yells "ONE" and I hit the G cord then the D, the C and repeat ( Concentrate ) Now Sing....( How do you people do this???) Now the Bridge then the lead guitar solo, Bass player shouts "ONE!!!" The G sings from my Gretsch, " Keep going D....C.....D....G again!!" the bass player calls. Then sing..Now the end tag G..D C..D and The G Rings out and hold.................Done.
WOW!!! The crowd explodes. WOW!!!...... I put the Super Chet down and finish the last two songs and it's out to say goodnite and shake hands and hug as the guest leave. Lots of great remarks were to be had but there is always one guy Right?!
So, this Guy.... walks up, stops and offers "You are probably the Worst Guitar Player in the World!" ............. Wait a Dam Minute!!!!!!! Did he just call me a Guitar Player?!?
I DID IT!!! I'M A GUITAR PLAYER!!!!!!!!!!
